I am visiting San Diego. I ran across Carlos’s web site in a Facebook group where someone had asked who is a good barber. There were 4 superlative endorsements of Carlos, so I made an appointment. I told Carlos how I wanted my hair cut, which is the way it had been cut for many years. He suggested something entirely different. I took a leap of faith. He cut my hair in stages so that, if I didn’t like what was happening, we could change course. He devoted way more time than any barber ever had, knowing full well that I don’t live in San Diego and might only be back once every year or two. When I looked in the mirror, I couldn’t believe it was me. This is the best haircut I’ve ever had. And the ambience of his shop was out of this galaxy. When you book an appointment, you are the only client, and you receive Carlos’s full, undivided attention. 5 stars all around.

Carlos is, hands down, the best barber I’ve ever been to. I have a stubborn cowlick in the back of my head that has defeated every haircut I’ve had—until now. For the first time, it practically disappeared. On top of that, my head is a little lopsided (something most barbers never seem to account for), but Carlos somehow shaped the cut so everything looks balanced and symmetrical.

He also suggested going a bit shorter to work with my thinning hair, and the result took years off my appearance. The cut looks clean, modern, and natural. He even recommended a couple of products that give my hair a healthy shine and hold everything in place without that stiff, plastered look.

The difference was so noticeable that people at home and at work commented on it right away. If you want a barber who really understands how to work with your hair—and even the quirks of your head shape—Carlos is the one to see.

I met Carlos in Palm Springs at a large party where he was bar manager. He mentioned that he cuts hair. Two hours later, I was in a patio chair with a barber cape, explaining my vision for my hair and beard that no one to date had been able to make happen. Carlos did my hair in stages to make sure that what I was telling him I wanted was what he was understanding, and that I actually liked what I had envisioned. Having no prior experience with my hair, Carlos actually improved on my vision. I can’t believe it’s me in the mirror and my friends can’t believe the transformation.

At an event event in Palm Springs, I had the pleasure of getting a haircut from Carlos, who was offering his services for a good cause. His warm and calming demeanor encouraged me to take a leap of faith and give him complete creative freedom with my hair. After asking thoughtful questions about my lifestyle and preferences, he began to work his magic. Since there were no mirrors at the venue, I had no idea what to expect during the process. When he finally revealed the result, I was absolutely blown away—I’ve never looked this good in my life. Carlos is nothing short of a genius. My only regret is that he doesn’t live closer so I could make him my regular barber.

I love to dance. I live to dance. I went to hear Carlos Pertuz DJ this weekend at Oscar’s in Palm Springs and would have danced all night except for the heat.

Last night, my husband and I ate dinner across the street from Oscars in Palm Springs. When we left the restaurant, we saw men in leather, gear, and camo waiting in line to get in. As members of the local leather community, this piqued our interest, so we walked across the street to see what was going on. As we approached, we were mesmerized by the music. We saw small signs that said BUNKER, and our buds who were in line explained that this was a new event. The last thing we were expecting at Oscars was a military themed party. We also weren’t expecting free admission, but there was no cover charge, even though it is Labor Day weekend. There were a fair number of men we know from the local leather community and we also met some men from out of town and others from the area. It was a very friendly crowd. We bought a round of drinks and were lured onto the dance floor by the music, which was truly mesmerizing. The DJ knew how to read the crowd and he seamlessly blended tracks to create a very upbeat atmosphere that really resonated with us and the other men present. My husband and I found ourselves dancing with a very attractive man we hadn’t met before, and then it seemed like the DJ was reading my mind, because he knew exactly when to drop the perfect beat to get us dancing together, and then he slowed things down to create a moment of connection. Before we knew it, the three of us were dancing together shirtless and sweating. Although it was too hot on the dance floor, the music just kept getting better and better, so we hung in there despite the heat. I felt compelled to find out who the DJ was. I picked up one of his cards and followed him to this web site. It came as no surprise that Carlos is from New York and that he’s well known there. I don’t know if he will be back in the area, but let me tell you, the guy is polished and freaking amazing. If you have the chance, go hear Carlos spin. Travel if you have to. It will be worth the trip.

Carlos was recommended to me by a friend. When I checked out his web site, the pics of his haircuts impressed me, but the fact that he is “generous with his time” was what stood out. I am a people person for whom haircuts, massages and other personal services are about the interaction as much as the service I receive. I’ve been getting haircuts and beard trims from Carlos for over a year. Carlos’s haircuts and beard trims are the absolute best, done with love, precision, and a creative eye. And his barber shop is one of the coolest and most immaculate spaces I’ve set foot in. I’ve gotten to know Carlos as both a barber and a friend. Carlos is one of the kindest, most compassionate and insightful humans on planet Earth. He literally spent hours of his time repeatedly after haircuts to listen and offer me encouragement during a crisis. If I could give Carlos 10 stars, I would.

I found Carlos while searching for a haircut during the pandemic – and I’m so glad I did! I’ve been going to him for about 3 years now and he always provides fantastic haircuts and beard trimmings. Even though I moved out of the city, I still keep coming to Carlos for his great service and friendly personality. But his desire to give me a look I truly love is the biggest reason I keep coming back. I’d recommend him to anyone looking for a professional barber!
